Library Project: Creating a Friendly Reading Space for Future Generations

Location: Prasat Bakong district, Siem Reap Province

Date: September 2024

Costs: USD3,000

Status: Completed

The Modern Friendly Library at Tropeng Thom is a shining example of teamwork and dedication. Over two weeks, five volunteers – Saira, Eva, Gianni, Bradley and Martin (80 years of age – bravo Martin!) transformed the space by removing old paint, repainting, designing bookshelves, tables, and chairs, and installing lights and a fence. We also supplied 1,000 reading books and other library materials to enrich the students’ learning experience.

Beyond renovation, we’ve committed six months to fostering a reading environment. During this period, we are running structured reading activities to inspire students and encourage their love for books. Role models lead these activities, setting examples for students to follow and helping them build lifelong reading habits. Local teachers are actively involved, ensuring they can sustain these practices even after the project concludes.

This six-month effort has created a space where students not only have access to books but also feel inspired to read regularly. The library is more than a project—it’s a lasting investment in education, and we are deeply grateful to our donors via our crowdfunding partner there-for-you foundation for making this possible.
