The school’s kitchen had long been a critical issue due to its age and deteriorating condition. The old kitchen was poorly maintained, with a leaking roof, insufficient sitting space, and inadequate provisions for safe and hygienic meal preparation. These conditions posed significant challenges to the health and well-being of the rural children who relied on the school for their daily meals. The renovation of the school kitchen has addressed some of the most pressing issues, providing a safer and more comfortable environment for the students. However, to fully realize the potential of this project and ensure long-term benefits, further support is needed. We remain committed to improving the lives of these children and are grateful for the continued support that makes these projects possible.
In response to these challenges, we undertook a renovation project aimed at improving the existing kitchen facilities. The renovation included:
- Roof Repairs: The roof was repaired to stop leaks, ensuring that the kitchen remains dry and safe, even during heavy rains.
- Expanded Sitting Area: We expanded the sitting area to provide more space for the children during mealtimes, creating a more comfortable and hygienic environment.
- Improved Ventilation: The cooking area was modified to include proper ventilation, allowing smoke to escape and creating a healthier atmosphere.
- Secure Storage: A secure space was created for storing cooking materials, protecting them from both weather damage and theft
We are most grateful to our sponsor, Swiss kitchen designer, planner and builder Andres Küchen Langenthal.
