We are excited to share the impact of the Computer Lab Project, which has been supported by our generous donor SE Asia Foundation. This year, the donor extended their support to a second primary school, building on their contribution to the first school last year. The donor provided computers, tables, chairs, projectors, and monthly local teacher fee contributions.
The decision to expand to a second school was driven by the positive feedback and the impact observed at the first school, as well as a request from a nearby school principal. As a result, this project now benefits over 60 grade 6 students across two primary schools.
Before the computer lab was set up, these schools included basic computer sessions in their curriculum, where students were limited to one hour of learning about technology. However, the teaching was primarily theoretical, with students practicing on printed keyboard templates rather than using actual computers. When the donor saw this, they were deeply moved and committed to providing the necessary resources to make a real difference.
In addition to the donor’s support, our board received more than 40 computers and keyboards from Swiss telecom firm Sunrise. While the monitors provided were limited, we purchased additional monitors and connectors, allowing us to establish computer labs in two schools, similar to the setup at the first school. By the end of 2024, four primary schools will be supported under this project.
Our team worked closely with local teachers to design a curriculum, along with pre-tests, post-tests, and monthly assessments to ensure the project’s success. We are proud to report that 65 students from the first and second computer labs have successfully completed Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet courses. This accomplishment will boost their confidence as they transition to grade 7, where they will have computer classes and exams required for promotion to grade 8.
One student expressed their gratitude, saying, “Thanks for bringing this important project to my school. I will confidently finish my grade 7 because I no longer feel left behind in technology.”
We are incredibly proud of the progress made and the positive impact on students’ education. This project continues to empower students with essential digital skills, preparing them for future academic challenges.
